There is a poem called “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe. I made an anthology with the poem in it, and placed a Raven on the front page, but never gave it much thought. It looked cool but was around the time when I was obsessed with the movie The Crow (featuring Brandon Lee).

There have been many stories of Raven being a messenger of some sort. In the Christian-Judeo communities, it was labelled “ill-fated” for bringing messages or omens of impending death. However, in the Bible (Genesis, Chapter 8: 6-13 of the Old Testament), Noah sends out two birds (one being a Raven) to scout the Earth for dry land. Although it didn’t return, it certainly didn’t bring back bad news. In Greek mythology, the Raven was turned black for bringing a God bad news!

The following series will focus on the magnificent Raven, which recently made itself known to me through my dreams. The Raven is a very complex character and, as a symbol, it is both revered and feared across various cultures. In my research, I have found that the Raven shares a symbiotic relationship with the Wolf and, in my opinion, shares common misconceptions (i.e. feared due to ‘dark’ conceptions).
