Awakening to Your Animal Totem
Learning to draw upon the energies of your animal totem through the use of creative imagination is essential to awakening the magic and power of its medicine.
Rather than you choose it, keep in mind that the totem will have symbolic significance to you. The more you learn about it and meditate on how it might reflect your own life, the easier it will become to access its energies.

In exercises such as these, most people get into trouble with the interpretation of the images encountered. Your nature totem may be a bird, a mammal, or even an insect or reptile. Read, study, and learn about your nature totem to facilitate you being able to relate it to yourself. Don’t just accept the totem without question. The imagination is a wonderful tool, but if not used properly, it can mislead. Put your totem through a simple verification process:
- How does it feel?
- What emotions/sensations does it arouse in you?
- Is it an animal that interested you in the past?
- What does it make you think of?
- What is your heartfelt response?
Do not haphazardly discard it, simply because it is not as glamorous as what your ego may have wanted. The totem may be quite appropriate to you, but you will not know until you study and explore more closely the qualities and characteristics of it. Use the dictionaries in this book to assist you, but do not limit yourself to them. Do your own exploration. Searching out the significance of the totem and its application to you and your life circumstances is a way of honoring it. It is the first step in opening a communication that can lead to true animal-speak.
If after your studying and exploration you cannot find its application to you, perform the exercise again. If you have a totem appear with fangs showing or it is in any way frightening, simply come out of the exercise. There will be no harm. You can end wherever you wish. You can experience as much as you wish. Totems teach that there is but one moment and you are in charge of that moment.
Keep in mind too that frightening images are more often than not projections of your own fears. They may also be expressions of resistance. It is amazing sometimes how programmed we are not to accept anything that can’t be rationally explained in the moment. Most people have some degree of programming of the idea—“Better the devil you know than the one you don’t.” When you start exploring the inner realms and their play upon the outer world through nature, it can be a little disturbing. There is often a sense of being vulnerable and unprotected, of having no control. If you find yourself encountering fear and resistance, think about your favorite pet, and imagine taking it along with you in the exercise. This will calm you, and its energy is always loving and protective to you on the inner realms.
With exercises such as those that follow, individuals often wonder if they are experiencing a true shamanic journey. The difference is simply in the depth of experience. In a true shamanic journey, you are actually in it, feeling it and experiencing it first hand. It will not always follow a prescribed pattern. In meditational exercises, such as the following, you often observe yourself experiencing the situation or imagining how it would be experienced. With time and practice, the meditation can become a doorway to a true journey.
Most exercises to discover one’s totem can follow a basic pattern:
- Relaxation.
- Entering a cave or tree.
- Leaving the cave or tree to enter a meadow or natural area.
- Experiencing peacefulness of nature.
- Allowing the totem to enter the scene.
- Allowing the animal to speak to you—its movement, sounds, form, color, etc, will give you a message about its power. You may even hear its thoughts in your own. Allow it to tell you or show you how it has helped you in the past and how it will do so in the future.
- Give thanks to it for making itself known, and ask it for some tangible confirmation in the next week or so that it is truly your animal totem. Such confirmations can come in many ways. You may see its face in the markings of a stone. It may come to you in a dream. You may encounter figurines, pictures or television. programs on it, but if it is truly your totem, there will come some confirmation of its presence in tangible form, in a quantity that is more than coincidence.
- Move back to the cave or tree and step back through it to its other entrance point. Then step out from it.
- Take four or five slow, deep breaths and allow yourself to feel grounded and connected.
- Begin your verification process. Research and study the totem and its qualities. Meditate and contemplate on its qualities as they apply to you and your life circumstances.
Preparation:
Drums and rattles are effective instruments to use, although they are not crucial. If drums and rattles are used, the rhythm should be slow and steady.

You should allow the drum beat to lead you. I recommend you not do any imaging, but simply sit and feel the drumbeat for at least five minutes. This relaxes you and brings your body rhythms into synchronization with the drum. If you do not have drums or a rattle, you may use some soft music that is repetitive and non-intrusive.
Make sure you will not be disturbed. Take the phone off the hook, lock the door, and/or do whatever is necessary so that you will not be interrupted. Make yourself comfortable. Sit or lie down, whichever is easiest for you, but make sure your back is straight so that the blood can flow freely up the spine. Close your eyes and breathe deeply. Then begin to perform a progressive relaxation. Focus on each part of your body, sending warm, soothing sensations through it. Begin at the feet and work your way to the top of your head. Take your time with this. The more relaxed you are, the more effective the exercise will be. Don’t worry if your mind wanders. Just bring it back to where you left off and continue. Then simply imagine the scenes that follow.
Exercise:
As you relax, you find yourself growing lighter and lighter. The surroundings seem to fade, and you are wrapped in the warm dark cloak of your own energy and mind. It is safe, warm and comfortable.
In your mind’s eye, you begin to see soft light, and slowly the view opens. You find yourself at the edge of a crystalline pool of water. The sky above is blue, and there is a soft haze on the distant horizon. Above you, the sun and the moon can be seen together in the sky. You are not sure if it is dusk or dawn, but you know it is one of those powerful “Between Times,” a time in which there is a thinning of the veils between the physical and the spiritual.
To your right, at the end of the pool, is a waterfall. The spray from it is cool and misty, and where it touches the pool, water ripples outward, distorting all reflections. It gives the area a surreal appearance. You look about you at the green grasses and the distant trees, and all is silent.
It is as if nature is in a state of quiet anticipation. You look back to the waterfall and you notice a dark area behind it. You move toward it, and as you stand close to the waterfall, you see a cave half-concealed behind it. You step carefully behind the waters and into the muted darkness of the inner cave. You are surprised, for it is illuminated with soft torches. The light given off from them give the open chamber a warmth. Somehow it looks familiar, and it makes you feel as if you were expected.
To the back of that chamber is a tunnel that is also lit with torches. You glance over your shoulder to the area beyond the waterfall, and then walk further into the cave. It is as warm and comfortable as it first appeared, and as you step further in toward that back tunnel, you feel a slight giddiness, and a soft childlike laugh slips out. For the first time in a long time, you feel like a child, about to open and explore wondrous treasures of the world. You step from the chamber onto the path of the tunnel and begin to follow it slowly. It is well lit, and you are not at all uncomfortable. You reach out and touch the walls with your hands, and you are surprised at their warmth. It is as if you could feel the life blood of the earth itself flowing through its walls.
As you move further along, the tunnel widens and grows taller. The torches are fewer and more distant, but you notice that it seems to be getting lighter still. Then you pass a couple of torches that are not even lit. You stop and touch them, just to confirm they have not recently gone out, and then as you look ahead, you see the reason. The tunnel has widened so greatly that the sun is able to penetrate almost fifty yards back.
You can see beyond the end of the tunnel. There is a distant river and lush green grass. The sunlight sparkles off of it as it would the morning dew on a summer’s day. Across the field is the edge of a rich, deep-green forest. You pause only a moment, and then you run the last fifty yards and burst from the tunnel into the warm sunlight of this beautiful meadow. The sun is warm upon your face, and the grass soft beneath your feet. Your nose is teased with the fragrance of honey and spring wildflowers. The air is sweet, and you tilt your head back and stretch your arms wide. You spin and swirl and laugh at the beauty and lightness of this meadow.
Next to the river is a large, ancient oak tree. Surrounding it is the greenest and most lush grass you have ever seen. You run to it and sit down beneath it. You stretch out and roll in its softness, and you inhale its sweetness. Then you sit up. Next to the tree is a stone, shaped as if carved into a chair. You sit down upon it, and as you do, you find that it fits your form perfectly.
It makes you giggle with wonder. You breathe deeply, and from this chair, you look about you. It is quiet and peaceful, and you know that this meadow is a place where wildlife must surely come, and for a moment you envy the animals and the birds for having such a place of beauty.
You sit upon that stone chair and you enjoy the beauty of nature. It is as if with each breath you become more and more a part of it, and it becomes more and more a part of you. Then suddenly your breath catches. You see a movement out of the corner of your eye at the edge of the forest. You hold your breath. Maybe you will get to see some wildlife. Then from among the trees comes movement.
It may soar above you or it may step out into the meadow. You sit still. watching, as an animal appears in your vision. Don’t force it. Allow it to show itself to you. And as it does, its eyes seek you out and hold your gaze.
Never have you seen anything so wonderful, so unique. Such animals have always seemed so wild and out of touch. There is no fear as it moves closer, only recognition and wonder. Surely this must be a dream! Then, as if in response to your thoughts, it makes a sound, a movement, a gesture and you fix your eyes upon it. In that moment you begin to understand. You catch glimpses of memories of how it may have helped you in the past. You now know why you have always been fascinated with it. And then it begins to move toward that tunnel. It pauses and turns to look back at you as if telling you it is time to go on. You stand and begin to follow it. As you approach the mouth of the tunnel, it waits. It is so close; with a few steps, you could touch it.
Carefully, gently you extend your hand out to it, but before your hand gets close enough to actually touch it, it jumps and is heading back to the edge of the forest. It pauses, looking back at you once more and then disappears into the green. You understand. It will take time to develop a relationship. There is much you have to learn from each other. Until then you must be patient. You smile a sweet sadness and then move back into the tunnel following it back to the waterfall.
As you step from the cave and behind the waterfall, you look into the crystal pool. You see your reflection rippling, and then behind your reflection you see the form of your animal totem. You catch your breath and you laugh, thanking it for opening to you. As you do, its image disappears, and the scene around you begins to fade. You are again in the warm darkness of your own mind. The image of your totem is strong within you, as you breathe deeply and allow yourself to come back to your surroundings.

Hi Timberwolf it’s me Matt.
Long time no see.
So I did the meditation with my friend back in August and to tell you the truth, I wasn’t so successful in the meditation so instead my friend told me that my spirit animal is a wolf named Butch, and apparently I had a past life with him but he’s not going to show up until 6 months after August (so sometime in February). But in the mean time what will happen when he does come into my life?
From your friend Matt.
Namaste Timberwolf ,
Thank you so much for your interesting answer . And , yes , you are right , now i’ve forgave and i am learning following my own path without trying anymore to take my family’s pain . It is very difficult when there is a kind of “empathic telepathy “.
i trust the Universe and i let it go now more easily now .
Another point , each time i ‘ve asked for a sign above , my road always crossed animals … owls , lamas and alpacas , foxes , etc…all kind of animals that is very difficult to cross where i live in France .
i even played like a child with the lama . he was very lovely and made me full of joy . wonderful moment i won’t forget because it was like i knew him for years .
i always had cats and special relationships with them and they ‘ve always learned me a lot , i can’t live without them in my life . .
i always thought it was my totem animal but through the years … i discover something else .
i felt an emergency . i don’t know what it is . it is like a scream that want to get out . i thought it was a kind of emotion or anger or joy . but when it finally goes out, i was very surprised that it was a Wolf HOWL !
when i hear or see wolves ‘ howling , it both scares me and vibrate in me very deeply . i don’t know if it make me sad or happy , everything is mixed emotionnally inside me .
sometimes i really feel the need to howl …
it soothes all my depth inside , it is like a connexion between me and i .
it doesn’t happen often but when it does, it is a like an emergency or a need .
so now , i listen a lot to wolves howling , it is like a consolation to my heart , a food to my soul and it make me work a lot about who i am .
it makes me meditate a lot .
sometimes we think we are things that we are not and we are very surprised to discover some truths .
maybe it is my totem animal for now ? i don’t know .
it may be too much questions but if you could help me, i would raise !
i am at a moment where i don’t know where i am , what to do or what i want .
it seems i dont know anything and i keep asking myself ” what do i need” but i feel myself too far . i don’t know where i am and what i want . i have no answers from myself from months !
it is not a confortable feeling because sometimes i feel really lost and don’t know what to do .
Thank you again for all the advices and benefits of your advices on this website and my apologies for my english .
.
Hi! I was just wondering if it would be possible to have two guides, because a wolf seems to appear in my meditations, but the dear in my dreams.
Hi Shshgr
Each of us will meet many different guides on our journey through life. We will have many different animals, people and angels looking out for us, teaching us and guiding us through this turn on the “wheel of life”. They will appear to us in dreams, meditations, accidental meetings with strangers that delay us for the few moments it might take so that we don’t get hit by that truck or instruct us that we need to be more mindful of others.
Please come back to Timberwolf HQ and share more of your story with us.
Timberwolf
I would like to say discard my last post. I’ve found my spirit to be a jaguar.
Hi Kayti
Thanks for stopping by Timberwolf HQ and sharing your story with us. I am excited for you that you have found your animal guide to be the jaguar. This is a guide who can teach you the merits of personal integrity. Just remember that while jaguar may be your main animal guide, we all have many different guides that come to us during our lifetime to teach us, guide us or help us through a given situation.

Hello anybody!
I read this article and It’s making me anxious to meet my spirit animal. I’ve been trying for a couple of years to meditate but I cannot seem to relax enough. I’m resorting to dreams and signs. I’ve thought of animals that have meant aomething to me. One time I was visiting a conservation park for large cats. There were many species of cats there, but this one tiger named Wally, would just come up to me. I looked into her eyes and I felt a strange connection. Like I could understand her. Also, I’ve known skunks to be very cautious of humans, but one night I was out walking my dog, and I see a shadow not to far ahead. I thought it was a cat at first, but then I noticed the white stripe on its tail and I realized it was a skunk. Casually walking towards me. I have no idea if my dog had anything to do with that but it seemed abnormal. And yet another.. Deer. They always seem to bring me a sense of peace and serenity when I see one. I alsi had a vision once that I was in a clearing and a male deer came out. He beckoned me to follow him and I did. The woods got too thick and I lost him. I havent seen him since. But I seem to always see deer around me. Please, help me decipher these.
Hi Timberwolf,
I’m so glad I found this site. I am quite certain that I have already found my spirit animal, I found that when I was nine (leopard). That’s my lifelong spirit animal. But I also had an experience recently with some animal that I don’t quite understand but link to spirit animals. I was standing in my office when a dark wind blew through. I saw a vivid cat, brown, wisp with the wind at my feet then suddenly pain hit my leg and a felt a warmth spread, almost like blood.
I went to shower an hour or so after (nighttime now) and was a little scared still. My shower has glass walls that fog up when the showers on, so I saw my female cat (not brown, could not have been any of my three who was in the office) sitting on the counter near the sink. I sketched her, starting with the eyes. Then suddenly the brown cat wind figure jumped onto the counter through the cat eye I had drawn. I felt his presence wildly. I looked suddenly at the window thy I could vaguely see myself in (across from shower) and the brown cat’s face innertwined with mine. Then it disappeared. And I continued showering. I know that isn’t TOO scary, but my heart was beating really hard now. Then I looked back and my face was mine, but changed. My eyes were slitted and narrow, and my face was car like as well. I was frightened and got out of the shower. I didn’t dream that night. I thought maybe “Is this my totem animal?” but thought it couldn’t be. I SEE leopards everywhere and have a very strong connevtion with them. There is no doubt that they truly are my totem animal. What was this?
Welcome to Timberwolf HQ Kerensa
The leopard may be your animal totem and main spirit guide. If that is the case, then having leopard as your guide indicates that you have the power of choice over your life and its path.
Many people have more than one animal spirit guide throughout their life. Each appears at the appointed time to guide us through a life lesson. The cat as a guide means magic, mystery and tactile senses. Perhaps at this time in your life you are in need with getting back “in touch” with the magic and mystery of your life.
I too, have experienced the changing of my facial features for an instant or two and realise the power that this can have over you. Embrace your vision and learn from it. Get back in touch with what is important to you and not what is important to those around you, that will come back in its own time.
Please return to Timberwolf HQ to let me know how things go.
Timberwolf

Welcome to Timberwolf HQ. First let me tell you that I am not a medium and do not claim any psychic skills. I follow my heart when I read and interpret the questions I am being asked.
Your dreams are very powerful indicators that you are not happy with your life. You would like to have a better relationship with your brother and yet you keep your distance. He will understand, all you need to do is tell him that you forgive him. If he asks what he is forgiven for, tell him “everything you have done” and then walk away. Let him come to you.
As for your father, you are both afraid of him and in awe of him. He is what you aspire to be without wanting to have to go through the same things he did to reach his point in life.
These are all normal things that people all around the world undergo every day. I’m glad that you found Timberwolf HQ. Perhaps there are other readers here who may have further insights for you.
Please come back and let us know how things are going with you.

Hello Timberwolf
Im 12. Is that too young to find my animal spirit as I have quite a wild imagination? I really want to find out what it is but I am afraid that my imagination will take over while I meditate to find my guide. I’ve always, all my life, grown up with dogs and had a very close connection to them and wolves. Almost like I can communicate with them them.
I have always had a feeling that my animal guide would be a white wolf with grey eyes. I was gazing into the moon the other night, attracted by its beauty, and thinking about the white wolf when I suddenly heard the name Nyra. Im not sure if this is my imagination or not??
Thankyou
Petra
Hello Petra
Welcome to Timberwolf HQ. I’m certainly happy to make your acquaintance.
As to your question, an active imagination could cause one of two things to happen. One, you could take your over active imagination and provide yourself with an entire fantasy about what you have experienced. This can seem quite real, however it would not be. Two, knowing that you have a very active imagination could help you focus more on what it is you are trying to do, in this instance, discover your spirit guide.
Try the meditation in this article: and be watchful for anything fanciful that enters into your mind during the meditation. Allow yourself to only see the things described in the meditation and come back to Timberwolf HQ to let me and my readers know the results.
It may well be that Nyra will be there for you when you find what you seek at the end. Please share it with us.

Hi Timberwolf, it’s me Matt again.
I haven’t meet with my friend yet to help guide me on the meditation, I asked her if she could but when she messaged me back she said she could can apparently “see” what my totem animal is, and she also posted a video off of YouTube called Finding your Power Animal with Denise Linn. (if your interested then go check out the video) I don’t know if I should try this meditation or if I should wait until she could help me on the other meditation. What do you think I should do?
From, Matt
Namaste Matt
If you are feeling ill at ease in attempting the meditation by yourself, then I would suggest you wait until you have your friend with you. This will make you more comfortable and they can guide you through it. When you are more relaxed you will have a better chance of completing the meditation.
Timberwolf
Hello Timberwolf,
Thank you so much for creating this website– it is wonderful to find a place with such integrity where the animals and humans can coexist. I read people’s stories and dreams about animals and feel at home. Animal dreams are usually so vivid and intense– these dreams help us to “wake up” in a whole new way.
I am a painter of animal spirit medicine (mostly), so I am always feeling into the meanings of the wild.
I recently had a dream that I am having trouble finding the meaning in, and I’m hoping you can help me. I was in a house that I was told nobody lived in, and I was wandering around between the rooms, when suddenly I knew a mountain lion stood behind me on the stairs, so it was at eye level with me. I knew it to be a mountain lion though it had the mane of an African lion. I immediately decided to kill it in self defense– though it made no moves towards me. I grabbed a piece of wood nearby and stabbed the mountain lion to death. There was no fight– it just died.
What does it mean to kill an animal in your dream? Are you defeating a part of yourself that no longer serves you– or are their gifts elements that you need but are destroying somehow in your waking life? The cougar is about balance and leadership, cunning and strategy, respecting other’s boundaries. I have recently moved to Iceland as an American, and am starting a healing business here with my husband, and find that I need many of those elements in spades right now! Do you have any insights?
I appreciate you!
Erin
Namaste Erin
First let me say that I have visited your website and I found your art amazing.
As to your dream, I can only give you my initial perception as to the way it feels to me. That you are in an abandoned home gives me the impression that you are feeling a little uncomfortable with the move to a new country and that you are still feeling your way. This is not a bad thing and it is what one would expect from such a dislocation. Your animal, a mix of African Lion and Mountain Lion (the latter being the more obvious to you) tells me that you are dealing with a number of things. The lion symbolises pride and the mountain lion leadership. Again this relates to your move, one in which it would seem to me that you devolved your leadership in the decision to that of your husband. The killing of the lion means the swallowing of your pride and the feeling that you have or requiring the qualities of balance and respecting of boundaries shows that you are willing to compromise with others decisions and try new things. There is much good to come from your decision and it will take time to discover the full manifestation of these things.
As I said, this is only an initial feeling. I hope it makes sense to you. Please come back anytime and let my readers and I know how things are progressing for you.
Timberwolf
Hi Timberwolf,
My name is Matt, can you help me?
I would like to know what my spirit animal is.
I’ve read the Discorvering your Animal Totem article and noticed that it’s a meditation; the problem is that I am not fimilar how to meditate or how to perform the meditation it’s self and I would like someone to guide me.
When I tried to meditate for the first time, I had trouble trying to keep my mind quiet.
I would like to have a spirit animal that I can talk to.
I’m worried I’ll never meet my spirit animal, can you help me?
P.S. I’ve also been to your website a few times before and I like it, keep up the good work and let brother wolf guide you forever.
From, Matt
Namaste Matt
Is there anyone close to you who would be willing to guide you through the meditation? If not let me know and I’ll see what I can do.
Timberwolf
There might be a person I know who might be able to guide me through the meditation, no guarantees though. I think I’m going to be seeing her soon in about a couple of weeks I think. I’ll ask her if she can guide me through the meditation.
Matt
Hi Matt
Sounds good. If that doesn’t work, then contact me again and I’ll see what I can arrange.
Timberwolf
Hi Timberwolf,
I was reading your article on how to find your spirit animal. I have always been fascinated with wolves, ever since I was a young boy. I’ve never been able to find my spirit animal, per say, but for some reason, I feel a strong connection with wolves. Not only that, but I’ve had dreams of a white wolf appearing in front of me, not to mention that I do have some characteristics of a wolf. And I’ve always felt the presence of that same wolf. I am going to try this excise to see if my animal spirit is a wolf or not. But my question is, what does this tell me? Have I already felt my animal spirit already?
Namaste Alex
Many people seek understanding of their guides. Some find them straight away while others struggle to meet them. Still others like yourself may find that their guides manifest spontaneously and in dreams. I would like you to try the meditation contained in the article: Discovering Your Animal Totem.
This meditation should assist you verifying your spirit guide and ultimately meeting them on equal terms. Remember though, do not try and force things to occur, it must be as natural as possible.
Please come back and let me know how things go.

Dear Ceto….I love to talk to people about “these things” …these things that speak of what is there, more than we know or sometimes see, between heaven and earth….and just remember, here on earth in this funny world we live in, you’ve been taught that you have to get it right, you need a tick against your answer and someone telling you……YOU ARE RIGHT…or WRONG!!
And in this space between heaven and earth where spirit resides, if it makes you feel good then it’s right!!! I am older than you and I remember years ago when counseling or just helping friends as people have always confided in me, I began to see pictures, like a movie playing of times gone by, olden days and I would see this person in it….playing a role, maybe 100, 200 or much older and it frightened me at first…should I say something? am I imagining it?…I would get hot under the collar, afraid to say something…one day I just said…what the heck!! And off I went……….turned out the other person could always relate to what I said, and saw and in fact it often explained things really well, in ways they could not have better understood, the more I trusted and went with what I saw the clearer and better able to see I became!!
Answer: Trust what come to you…..you will feel it and it will be right!! The other thing I want to say to y0u is that the best best best and most FULL proof thing you can do is…………….Keep asking questions, don’t ever stop asking questions and the best way to ask is…..to be Wondering, Curious and interested…and you already are that, so you are on the right track…..and above all EXPECT an answer….it will come and when it does you will know it is right!!!
Have fun and enjoy the flight!! Ursula S
Thank you Ursula! I will try to be more relaxed about it, and make the animal come to me instead 🙂 I have some other questions too ( if thats ok? I dont want to bother you…. ) I was wondering, how do you know that one animal is truly your totem/spirit guide? Do you just feel it? Or do you get signs? And i was also wondering about the gender of the totem? Do they have genders? And ( another question XD ) how do you seperate imagination and whats really your animal? I seem to have a problem trusting myself when it comes to meditation. I dont have problems relaxing or visualize, but i just cant trust myself enough to say that i really meet my totem or just imaginate everything XD I must say that i am new to this whole spirituall thing, and i have never been religious or spirituall at all, but lately i have found this urge to contact my spirit guide, and try to find myself. It is hard to explain.
I believe that is it more between heaven and earth than we can see and explain… haha, some years earlier i would probably have laughed off myself if i saw this post XD I didnt believe in ghosts or totems or god at all. Well, people change i guess…
If you have managed to read through this whole post i must admire your patience. And again thank you! I love to have someone to talk to when it comes to these things. 😀
I loved your post and can feel that you are such a lovely energy….my advice to you is to stop looking, stop trying to find your totem animal….so what I mean by that is that Meditation is about resting in a pleaceful place in your heart and allowing yourself to stop trying to do anything. Unfortunately with animal energy, well it’s not unfortunate…..unless we are trying too hard to try to make it happen. But animals are very loving and very kind in nature and they teach us to sit back and allow them to approach us, sometimes there is nothing more they want from us than for us to sit still and give them the space to come to us, on their terms.
My advice to you is to meditate on the lovely feelings that animals give you, their soft comforting fur, the inspiration of flying, how wonderful it feels to fly, what it feels like to have an animal rub up against you, touch you with it’s fur, lick you, play with your hands…purr or snikker in the case of a horse in your ear….fill yourself with the lovely companionship energy of animal support and love…… and I promise you, your totem will come and reveal itself…but don’t get attached to it…you are young and you will have many changes so one day it is a bird, the next day a lizard….animals speak to us….just yesterday I was walking in the bush with my dog and “thinking intensely” about a change I need to make in my attitude to a person I know….I have to change how I see that I said and there not more than a couple of metres away was a pretty big snake slithering through the grass….Jarrah, my dog noticed it too but let it be….I was so excited and happy to see her slither across my path and noticed I felt no fear or anxiety, I gave her space, she gave me mine and she reinforces and confirmed for me that my thought was right!! Yes, change is needed here!! Snakes mean change because they lose their skins and when they do they are very sensitive as we all are when we make changes in our lives.
I hope that helps Ceto….lots of love Ursula XOXO
Thank you all som much for the information about your totems! It has really helped me alot om my journey trying to find my totem. But i have a few questions:
I meditate every day but i never seem to see anything spessial. Every time i try to look for the animal ( while meditating ) i always think something like, maybe it is a bird! And then a birds starts flying above my head, or maybe it is a cat! And a cat shows up.. But yesterday when i was meditating i saw a big white animal coming towards me. I couldnt se what animals it was because i was blinded by the sun. And then suddenly everything went black and i had to quit meditating. At first i thought it was a white lion, but i am not really sure.. Some days later when i was looking at different animal totems i found the snow leopard, i suddenly felt happy and warm inside. I searched for pictures of snow leopards and while i was looking at the pictures i suddenly started to laugh and cry at the same time. I felt soo happy and i had no idea why XD I have tried to look for the snow leopard while meditating but i never seem to find it.. Does anyone have any advice?
I also tried to meditate in the forest today. It didnt really work though XD it was too cold so i couldnt consentrate.. But when i walked i found some magpie feathers on the ground, i took one of them with me, because i was curious that it may mean anything. I also felt that something was looking at me when i was walking. It was right in the middle of the forest, and i was the only person there. Could it have been my totem animal watching me?
I should also say that i am only 14 years old, but i really want to find my totem as soon as possible. Right now i both need the companion and i am curious what it may be 😀
Thank you
Thankyou Carol for your lovely comments and for your acknowledgement, I humbly accept….and, it’s natural isn’t it, to enjoy the genuine appreciation that others express for what you share and give from your heart and soul!
Thankyou again and always, Timberwolf for the physical and spiritual presence as expressed in this site you have created that in this moment is the vehicle for this discourse and exchange of ideas so rich in meaning.
Today is the 30th December, one day before the last day of 2011 and then we step into a whole new world called 2012. So it is timely and beautiful to express these ideas now.
In respect the the Medecine Woman, Carol, it was the Dalai Lama who said at the Vancouver Peace Summit 2009…”The world will be saved by the Western Woman” …..he went on to describe the powers of insight and wisdom that woman have access to and that it would be women who would lead the way for radical world change….in 2012 we are poised for that change….only recently Scientists have discovered more and more about energy, that if 10% of a group of people hold an unshakeable belief the other 90% are to powerless to prevent the belief from sweeping through their consciousness. Swiss Scientists, the Hadron Collider think they have identified a form of energy that is the source of creation, elsewhere scientists have discovered that the heart has its own mind and thinks more powerful thoughts than the brain does, it emits an electromagnetic energy field that emanates up to 10 feet from the body and in more evolved people, well they are not sure how far but far and wide it is. So we are beginning to understand energy and how it functions and that it is behind every physical phenomena we observe, and we often misunderstand or have a wrong or limited perception based on inadequate or only partial information.
The world we live in today….our institutions, governments, religions, rules, mores, regulatory bodies have build their schemata or matrix of beliefs, values, rules and regulations on a very very limited and superficial observation on the nature of LIFE…..how this planet functions and on many many counts they have been completely wrong and have severely underestimated the life processes that govern our existance, this is of course natural and to be expected as we can only see what we are capable of seeing and perception IS a direct a product of our evolutionary level of understandig and our process….unfortunately humans can be creatures of habit who adopt and cling tenaciously to old ways even when they are outdated and outmoded by hundreds of years of understanding…….Julian Assange has shown the world that the powers that be release only the information that supports the status quo of the old ways that disempower the masses and keep them with their noses to the grindstone of commercial profit..for the few…..this is changing…NOW!!
So old medecine gives you an aspirin to remove the symptom called a headache without addressing what caused it…..New medecine asks you to look within to understand what wrong, vexed thought or misaligned feeling is causing the pain in an obviously conflicted mind that has caused the pain. New Medecine looks for wise ways to proceed and deal with all manner of human issue, it recognises powerful energies that underscore and sponsor every happening and look for change in ways that are permanent, wise and growth evoking.
All women around the world are being called Carol, to “come out” To begin to think, feel, consider, muse upon, build decisions on, emanate, express and share the truth about life, what matters, and what doesn’t!! What is important and what isn’t…how to live more consciously aware of what is really happening in our world, beginning to embrace new ideas about death, creation, life, fear, abundance…knowledge….releasing all victimhood and stepping into the true power of all of who we are capable of being.
In 2012 we will be challenged, where do you stand on LIFE? The Medecine Woman in everywoman is being asked to step forwards and tell it like it is!!
I wish you a wonderful transition from 2011 to 2012 and enjoy your New Year. Put your seat belt on, lift your arms and fly and let your hair out and let the wind blow through your being and >>>> Let the Games Begin!!!
Lots of Love, light and many blessings to you Ursula XO
Ursula and Carol
Thanks be to you Ursula for again sharing of your wisdom and insight. Blessed be to Carol for sharing her story and her questions. That is what Timberwolf HQ is all about. Not just a refuge from the world but a beacon to shine in the darkness of the future to illuminate, educate and be a ‘path finder’ and ‘leader’ in the evolution of a new paradigm. With 10% percent of people worldwide coming to the same conclusions about our spiritual and evolutionary transformation, then we should be able to stand strong against the 90% and bring forth the change for a better world. Our mother, Gaia, expects and requires this from us.
In love and light to you both and all my readers.
Namaste
