With Brother Lonewolf about to return to us, this might be an appropriate time to discuss out of body experiences. Whether you believe in life after death, reincarnation, astral projection or just plain nothing at all, one thing that fits the definition of being unexplained is the phenomenon of out of body experiences.
I was chatting one night with an internet friend of mine and the following words formed part of our discussion which centered on some amazing things. It still amazes me at the diversity of people you encounter on the world wide web.
The conversation went like this:
I used to be able to astral travel as a kid and I am now trying to recapture that. When we are younger, I think we are more in tune with our spiritual abilities.
I know what you mean, sometimes when I meditate I feel my soul is lifting out of my body. However, many times it feels like it won’t release all the way when I am out there and I try to surrender to it. I just don’t seem to be able to quite get there.
Well, you have to believe that you will find your way back to your body and let go to fully enjoy the experience.
Yeah, many times it just won’t release all the way … it frustrates me at the moment.
Well, maybe you’re trying too hard.
I don’t initiate it, it just occurs and then I can feel from the waist up I’m out and then it stops.
Maybe when you experience that part of the astral projection you try too hard to follow through with it. Have you tried to just relax and let the experience take you with it?
Yes and then I realize the bottom part of my astral self is still in my body.
Have you tried to just relax into the feeling…I think that it will happen naturally if you do?
I have been reading a lot of books about hell and about death experiences, you know, where people have died and come back.
Well, I believe that there is no hell except the one we create for ourselves and death is just the beginning of another new adventure.
So do you think that these people created the hell they saw?
Maybe, who really knows for sure. I believe that death is merely the end of the biomechanical machine (our body) that houses our soul or consciousness.
Do you believe in reincarnation?
Yes, I do. I think that the wheel of life must be traveled to learn the lessons of enlightenment and this sometimes includes out of body experiences.
So what exactly is an out of body experience? Wikipedia has an article on the subject which gives a good overview of what an OOBE (out of body experience) may be. Briefly, the article says that an OOBE
- …is an experience that typically involves a sensation of floating outside of one’s body and, in some cases, perceiving one’s physical body from a place outside one’s body.
Some people refer to OOBE as “astral projection” or “spirit walking”. However, these may be different phenomena as OOBEs more often form part of a near-death experience (NDE). Most accounts of OOBE include the feeling of being outside your body and suddenly realising this as a real event.
What could cause an out of body experience? The mixture of brainwaves from the waking state and the sleeping state? Is this what it is like for coma patients?
Does anybody know the answer to that question? Please leave your thoughts below.

I recently was in the hospital in a coma. I tried to kill myself via an overdose of zanex and Jack Daniels. While I was being worked on in the ER fighting for my life, which I almost didn’t survive, I had an out of body experience. I was hovering above my bed and body while the doctor shocked me back to life and all the ER staff was working on me. Ever since then I have been having horific night terrors, but the person committing the horrific acts is not me. I am afraid that I brought something or someone back with me from the other side. I fear that I have something, or someone attached to me. How can I get rid of this thing? Please help me, I’m desparate.
Hi Katrina. I understand your pain and desparation so I am including a link to Pamela Nine who is more of an expert in these matters. She has been advised that you will be contacting her. Her site is: Pamela Nine, Ph. D and she can be reached through her contact form page. Please contact her so that she may help you with your circumstances.

NDE’s are the same as OOBE’s. They are visions from the 3rd Eye, which is the Pineal Gland in the center of your brain. Any time you have an out of body experience, including near-death, it is because your pineal gland is releasing DiMethylTryptamine, which induces spiritual perception, or a “sixth-sense”, if you will. These experiences can be induced conciously by channeling intention/bioelectric energy to the 3rd Eye Chakra, inducing a DMT trip which will allow your perception to leave your mind-body (mind and body are both essentially phsyical, think of mind as the reflection of material reality, and spirit as the mirrored surface upon which this occurs) travel along higher energy vibrations.
I always wanted to know what “OOBE” stood for. Simple really 🙂 The video is great – certainly adds a level of credibility to the subject. I just wrote an article about dreaming myself – although from a different angle…
